Get Out

It's a theatretastic ramble! Oh boy! If you want to be entertained this weekend there is a crapload of cool stuff to do. There are some new shows opening, and some fun ones closing, and a couple of one time only special events as well, too, also. Any of you grammar nazis out there are cringing at that sentence, aren't you. I do what I can.

First off, me myself & my wife (aka "her") will be catching up on shows that are closing that I'm not allowed to miss. On Friday I'm watching Dark of the Moon at BCT and Project Murder at the Empty Space. Yes, dark and scary just in time for Halloween. You should come too and we'll hang out in that awkward "it's easier to interact on MySpace" kind of way. I have a wedding on Saturday which I'm hoping will end in time for me to join some friends at the midnight performance of "Dark of the Moon." Midnight shows at BCT can be fun. It aint your grandma's theater no more, uh uh oh no. Last year at Rocky we toilet papered the theater. At the time I was the president of the board, so we didn't even get in trouble. Next year we might have to be sneakier. Anypoop, let's move on.

"Dearly Departed" is opening at Stars on Friday. That's about all I know about it right now.

Seat of Your Pants' "Cleansed" and "Closer" are opening in LA this weekend also. I would love to see them, but I'm kind of doubting I'll be able to. Hope you can, though.

"Assassins" is opening at the Spotlight on Friday, with free food and drinks on opening night! That is going to be one killer show, no pun intended. It's a Sondheim musical. It's about assassins. It's directed by Hal Friedman. What else do you need to know? It's going to be awesome.

Before I forget, also this Saturday is a special event featuring some of the best from local High School Shakespeare. I heard that Liberty (I think) won at the Utah Shakespeare Festival...and you can see them on Saturday. I will be posting more details on this later this week when I get them.

For full deets on all of the productions listed here and any I missed (as well as auditions and other theatre business) you can always turn to "This Week in Bakersfield Theatre" in your inbox or posted on my website at http://www.theatreaddict.com/thisweekintheatre.htm

This weekend's edition should be up later today or early tomorrow.

Now get out!

PS: Sadly it seems the Elitist Press folded before it got started. I ran on at the mouth with some flippant criticism but I'm severely dissapointed. I was just getting ready to add them as a top friend on MySpace and say "Just kidding I love ya!" when they dissapeared. You thought John Kerry was a flip flopper but you aint seen me bouncin back. Whatever. But there are rumblings about more things to come. Big things. I'm hearing exciting rumors. But certain bums...I mean so called friends won't give me the juicy gossip. I'll keep you posted.
