When I wrote the first blog on this subject I really vented didn't I. That's a question but I'm not using a question mark. That's how I roll. Or is it.
Anyway, here's what I mean with less viciousness. I wholeheartedly welcome any alternative news publication that dares to emerge in Bakersfield. But I also expect a lot of them.
The Elitist Press has the chance to be something great, but the leadership will need to be open to whatever voices want to jump on board with them in order for that happen. An alternative press NEEDS committed individuals to start things off with energy, financing, and vision...but you can't run a community newspaper without the community, or pick and choose between what alternative viewpoints you want to include. That's the whole selling point of this kind of publication...nothing censored, inclusive, things you won't get from a mainstream organization.
Would the Californian love to interview Robert Mistriel and let the public meet this controversial individual with such radical things to say that they'd ruin lives and careers if anyone believed them? I have to think they would. But Ed Jagels would flatten the Californian in two seconds if they dared. However, the Blackboard or Elitist Press or NL Belardes could publish the interview and let the public decide for themselves. The controversy would either cause the alternative media in question to die and come back under another name, or go bankrupt, or more than likely gain even more standing. No one backs the big guy in a fight between him and the meek. That's why the meek rule.
The Elitist Press (or any such organization) has my support. I should have mentioned that before I cursed them out. But...If they are able contribute towards an atmosphere in which a real alternative media is nurtured...they will also have my voice.
