About This Website
I created TheatreAddict.com to serve as portal to all Bakersfield theatre. There is no hidden agenda or profit to be made. I want to make theatre more accessible to the masses. I want to make it easier for the average citizen to quickly find out about all of the cool shows playing in town or coming up. I want to unite the individual theaters by working together to promote the art form and the plays we do.
In short, I want to see bigger audiences, more cooperation, and better shows. That, in a nutshell, in the point of this website.
I set out to do that by establishing this site as a freeform, open medium for communication, marketing, and journalism.
If you've lived in Bakersfield very long you have surely realized that you can't count on the "real" media for good arts coverage. When theatre does get attention from the radio & TV stations or the newspaper it's great, but it's never enough! So I say we create our own media.
Now, let's face it...I have big ideas, but I can't do it all by myself! I want this to be a community effort and that means you contribute. I can't get out to see every show and write an article about it and take pictures and what not. Luckily, I don't have to. If you see a show you want to rave about, pound out an article and send it to me - and I'll post it. If you're browsing and think to yourself "Damn, there aren't any pictures of such and such..." Don't just sit there with that confused look on your face, snap those suckers and send them to me. What I'm saying to you is "You, anyperson, are just as responsible for the content here as I am." Does that spell it out for you?
I want this site to be alive. Not just a place on the internet but a movement. So, as you browse around don't think of this as my website. Don't get me wrong, it is. I made it and paid for it. But I created it to share. It belongs to the theatre community. It is for and belongs to every actor and theatre geek in Bakersfield. It is for non-theatre people also, so they can reach out and experience the dramatic arts. It's for the benefit of mankind. It's for our CHILDREN! To preserve the beloved art-form...OK I'm getting carried away, but you get the idea. You have to think big to make big things happen.
